Nature, cheaper than therapy

“The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician.” – Paracelsus, 16th Century Germany.

Forest Therapy

How do you feel looking at this image? Relaxed, happy, maybe even invigorated? Congratulations, you just practiced the art of Forest Therapy. I have been practicing Forest Therapy my whole life, however, only over the last few years have I learned that there was an actual term for my love of the forest, and what it was doing for my body. Given the rise of more urban areas, it is especially important to not forget our ancestral habitat, nature. Forest therapy helps you to reconnect with that. Today we will explore what Forest Therapy is and how it began, the benefits of it, the scientific evidence behind it, and how you can start practicing it right now.

The History of Forest Therapy

First, let’s learn a little about Forest Therapy. Forest Therapy is also known as Shinrin-Yoku. This is the Japanese practice of spending time in the forest to enhance one’s own health. Shinrin-Yoku when translated into English literally means “Forest Bathing”.

In 1982, the term Shinrin-Yoku was coined as a marketing ploy by Tomohide Akiyama during his short job as director of the Japanese Forestry AgencyThings changed in 1990 when Dr. Yoshifumi Miyazaki of Chiba University was followed by the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation during his small study in the Yakushima Forest.

Scientifically proven benefits are:

  • Reduction in stress
  • Reduction in blood pressure
  • Improvement to your mood
  • An increase in focus, even with children who have ADHD
  • Increase in your energy levels
  • Improvement in sleep
  • Faster recovery from surgeries or illness
  • And a boost to your immune system functions, specifically with an increase in the amount of the body’s Natural Killer (NK) cells which are the bodies disease-fighting agents

The Evidence

Let’s discuss some of the key research that has been conducted by doctors, psychologists, and researchers both past and present.

At the same time, doctor Edward Trudeau did the same in New York’s Adirondack Forest. Both reported benefits to the forest air. The noticeable benefits of nature are still examined by researchers to this day.

Chiba University has obtained psychological as well as physiological data on nearly 500 adults. Another 500 adults were also studied by another group located in Kyoto Japan.

In a more recent 2010 study conducted at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, they examine the effects of a plant within view of an office space.

Furthermore, it has been proven that trees contain antimicrobial oils called phytoncides, and according to Qing Li, a Japanese researcher, those oils increase our NK cells naturally.

How can you get started today?

woman meditating forest therapy

Go into a forest, and just stop. Breathe in slowly, look around, take in all that nature has to offer using all your senses. Meditating is one of the best ways to truly get the most benefit out of forest bathing. It doesn’t have to take up a lot of your time either, incorporate it into your everyday life.

On Forest Therapy Today, they list 9 ways you can reconnect with nature. Some of those are:

  • Going to a park
  • While walking down the street you can touch the bark on the trees as you pass by them. This grounds yourself while getting a healthy electrical charge

Hand touching tree forest therapy

  • Plant something in your yard
  • Go camping
  • Viewing pictures of nature can help
  • Earthing

Earthing forest therapy

Earthing is the practice of walking barefoot on the ground, also called grounding. When doing so, this allows the soles of your feet to absorb the negative ions from Mother Earth. You do this by the energy vortexes, aka chakras, that are located in the soles of your feet to connect with the energy being picked up by your Earth Star chakra. This energy is then absorbed into the body, and dispersed to areas that may be in need of this vital life force.

In an article written by Miyazaki et al, their research has shown that a room with a 30-40% ratio of wood has similar effects as Forest bathingPlacing plants in your home can also be beneficial. You can also use a combination of essential oil scents, such as citrus and pine, to mimic the smell of trees

It’s only natural to love nature

Today I have gone over what Forest Therapy is, the benefits of it, the scientific evidence behind it, and how you can practice it in your life. I hope you now all have a better understanding of the ancient art of Forest Therapy and will go home tonight inspired to pack up your gear and get outside. With depression affecting 1 in 10 Americans, there is no better time to start than now.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Look Deep into Nature, and then You will understand everything better.”

Tibetan Tektite Travels

Tibetan Tektite, as I have come to learn, is an amazing stone. Through meditation, I was able to allow this stone to connect with my highest self. In this article, I am going to share my personal four-day experiences with all of you.

What is Tibetan Tektite?

Tibetan Tektite

Tibetan Tektite is an amorphous crystalline structure with more than half of its composition consisting of silicon dioxide. Usually black, they can also be brown, gray, or even green (Moldavite). Their exact origin is still unknown today. Cultures to this day are unsure of whether these stones are the result of a meteor impact or created from molten rock. Regardless of their true origins, Tektites are revered throughout places around the world as a magical stone.

If you do not have a copy already, I highly recommend The Book of Stones by Robert Simmons. There are several editions available, any of which is an excellent addition to your library. You can purchase the book on Amazon:

On to the fun!

I started off my journey by first meditating with the Tibetan Tektite. The moment I picked it up I could sense the energy coming off of it. They felt like vibrations or tingling in the palm of my hand. As the meditation progressed, this sensation began to creep up my arm and into my shoulder blade. I could feel tiny muscle twitches happening randomly as my body took in its vibrations. My thoughts drifted to that of peace, calm, and serenity.

Once completed with this meditation, I placed the Tibetan Tektite in my pocket and continued with my day. Throughout the day I noted increased energy levels, confidence, drive to accomplish projects and a deep passion in regards to these projects. In addition to those amazing attributes, I also experienced heightened awareness and cognitive functioning.

Day 2

Again, I meditated with the Tibetan Tektite first thing in the morning. The sensations experienced the previous day remained, with tingling sensations moving up my arm yet again. As my mind drifted to a new yoga routine I had purchased, feelings of intense excitement and joy swept over me to begin this new routine. Suddenly, an image of a white bolt of lightning flashed before my eyes. Immediately following the bolt, shadows of people could be seen dancing or walking in front of me.

The visions rapidly switched to that of a butterfly. After viewing this butterfly several times, wings from a bird, or even an angel, came to light. However, these images still remained as shadow figures, completely void of color.

Just as done the previous day, I placed the Tibetan Tektite in my pants pocket. Following the meditation, I was inspired to begin my yoga workout. Increased confidence, drive, energy, and passion was again experienced throughout the day. I was even driven to re-arrange my sacred space to allow for better functionality for my business and clients I will help there.

Side note, while recording for my online class I was explaining how to perform a Kinesiology test to better determine if you need a particular stone. Intuitively, I reached for the Tibetan Tektite. I asked if I needed this stone and the response came back as “yes”.

Day 3

Unfortunately, day three was an extremely difficult day for personal reasons and meditations for the day did not procure. Regardless of the difficult times, the same attributes experienced the other two days were noticed, giving me calm exactly where it was needed.

In contrast to other evenings, I placed the Tibetan Tektite inside my pillowcase. Throughout the evening I experienced extremely vivid visions and dreams, however, the second I awoke all the dreams were instantly forgotten. The only memory remaining was of how vivid the dreams were.

Day 4

Here we are! Day four, where the real magic took place. The day began with increased energy and drive. The ability to further work on my blog, videos, and learn a recurrent theme.

As I sat down to meditate, having not gotten to this until late in the evening, his energy was noticed right away again. I say “he” because at this point in the journey I had intuitively realized that my Tibetan Tektite was that of male origin.

Inspired by a conversation had with a friend, I asked the Tibetan Tektite where he was from. Immediately, I received the answer “China”. I then prompted another response by asking for any messages that he may have for me. The response “Run” spat back rapidly.

I ended the meditation swiftly, shaken by the message received. I picked up my Tarot deck and did a quick spread for answers. Once finished, the Tibetan Tektite called for me to meditate once more.

The magic awaits!

All the other meditations I had placed the Tibetan Tektite in my left hand. This time I decided to lie down, placing him on my third eye and grabbed my apophyllite to hold in my left hand. The tingling sensation felt in my third eye, forehead, hand, and arm was intense. Quickly the sensation migrated, engulfing my entire body.

When the vibrations stopped, sparkling white lights appeared. Again, wings came into vision. This time, however, they flapped slowly and I knew with my mind’s eye I was gazing upon an angel. I asked whom this angel was and he responded, “Gabriel”. As always, I asked for confirmation of this information and received a “yes” in response.

Immediately following this I began to feel light headed and dizzy. I could feel myself leaving my physical body. I traveled rapidly through time and space as things passing by appeared as mere blurs of colorful lines whipping past.

Shunan Forest Cliff tops

I was transported to a beautiful lush forest in China. Coming in I could see a clifftop with a drop-off off to my left with what appeared to be exposed rock on its side.

Shunan Forest Bamboo trees

Reaching the forest floor the ground was warm, heating the bottoms of my feet. The trees surrounded all around me. Looking up they extended miles above me, reaching high into the sky. The sight was breathtaking, a sight I had never seen prior to this journey.

Putting all the pieces together

Once I was safely back on this plane of existence, the spiritual body reconnected with the physical, I rushed to figure out where I had been transported to. Knowing it was a location in China, I searched google for “forests in China”. Gazing upon images of different locations, I instantly knew when I saw the proper place. It is a forest called Shunan Bamboo Forest in southern China. My intuition screamed that this was it, this was where the Tibetan Tektite had taken me. As I looked up the stone in The Book of Stones this information was instantly confirmed when in the first sentence Robert Simmons mentions that Tibetan Tektite is from Tibet and…southern China.

The Pituitary Gland

What is your Pituitary Gland?

There is much conjecture surrounding this incredible gland. The question of if this area is a gland or organ is debated by scholars everywhere. Your Pituitary Gland is located in the center of your head at the base of your brain, approximately three inches directly behind the bridge of your nose. It is subservient to your much larger Hypothalamus. Merely the size of a pea, your pituitary is called the “master gland”. Don’t let it’s small stature confuse you with it’s significance in your brain’s functioning. This little gland has huge importance, especially surrounding your Third Eye Chakra!

Let’s get scientific!

Don’t worry, I won’t go into too much anatomy here. Just enough to give you a basic understanding of this glands functions. Part of your Endocrine System, your Pituitary is divided into two separate sections, the Anterior Pituitary, and the Posterior Pituitary.

The Anterior Pituitary

Your anterior pituitary is located in the front of your pituitary gland. The anterior controls different hormone secretions into your body. One of the most important hormones released during early childhood and into adolescence is its release of Somatotropin. Growth hormone (GH) is an easier identifier for Somatotropin. Prolactin (PRL), in addition, is a hormone released by the anterior pituitary. Prolactin is what allows new mothers the ability to produce milk after their child is born.

Interestingly enough, this gland is also responsible for emitting hormones that control other parts of the same endocrine system! Since these hormones are released by one part of the endocrine system and are in charge of another part of the endocrine system, they are called Tropic Hormones. The Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH) is used the help with the production of sperm and in females, egg production. Working with FSH is the production of Luteinizing Hormone (LH). Shortened to Lutropin, this hormone is responsible for the production of testosterone in males, and ovulation in females. Your anterior pituitary also aids in the proper functioning of your adrenal glands outside the reproductive systems.

Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) or Corticotropin regulates cortisol in your body. When your body is stressed, or in fight or flight mode, it releases a hormone called Cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone called your stress hormone or steroid hormone. Lastly, the hormone Thyroid-stimulating Hormone (TSH), or Thyrotrophic, is released in this area. This hormone stimulates the production of thyroxine from your thyroid. Thyroxine is responsible for every tissue in your bodies metabolism.

The Posterior Pituitary

Let’s now discuss your Posterior Pituitary. Unlike your anterior, which produces hormones, your posterior merely releases hormones secreted by the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus does this by sending these hormones through the end of nerve cells attached to your posterior pituitary. Your posterior then releases these hormones into the bloodstream. Most of you have probably heard of the hormone Oxytocin, especially if you have children or know someone who does. Oxytocin is involved in things such as uterine contractions during labor as well as the production of breast milk. It also has an important role in your kidney function as well. It releases Anti-diuretic Hormone which enables the kidneys to increase the amount of water in your blood.

So what does this have to do with your Third Eye?

Called the “seat of your mind”, your pituitary is also in charge of regulating your thoughts. From emotional processing to intellectual thought, all of this is in part thanks to this gland. Meditation stimulates and activates this area as well as the pineal gland of the brain causing your third eye to awaken.

You can read more on this gland in my previous blog at Look for the section relating to your sixth chakra, also known as your third eye chakra.

Be sure before working on this gland that your pineal gland is not calcified and working at optimal health. For more information about your pineal gland, please read my blog at

The Pineal Gland

Pineal Gland Location

What is your Pineal Gland?

At the center of the brain sits a small, pinecone-shaped gland; a part of your Endocrine System. Your pineal gland connects your endocrine system with your nervous system. But that’s not all this gland does! It also controls the production of two very important hormones.

Mela-who and Sera-what?

Your pineal gland is responsible for the production and release of the hormones Melatonin and Serotonin. Both of these hormones assist in sleep cycles and waking. As darkness sets in and the sun has gone down, your pineal gland receives messages from your retinas. Prior to arriving at your pineal gland, your hypothalamus receives the messages from your retina, then sending them to your pineal gland as a result. These messages then cause your pineal gland to begin producing and releasing melatonin into your bloodstream. Melatonin is the sleep hormone. This allows you to feel tired, fall asleep, and remain asleep once there.

As morning grows near and the sun begins to creep through your windows, your retinas again send another important message to your pineal gland. This message stimulates the production of Serotonin. Serotonin is the “happy hormone” and is responsible for waking you up. Your pineal gland, however, is not responsible in the production of the neurotransmitter Serotonin. Melatonin is also responsible for the development of reproductive organs and ensuring this development does not begin too early.

So what does this have to do with your Third Eye?

watercolor hamsa

Often called the “seat of the soul”, your pineal gland is responsible for your connection to the divine. Your pineal gland is the home of your intuition, psychic abilities, and knowledge. Believe it or not, it has the same rod-shaped cells that are also found in your retinas! In addition, the pineal produces N, N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Nicknamed “the spirit molecule”, this neurotransmitter is a powerful psychedelic released in the brain during near-death experiences.

How to get this gland in optimal health

Meditation has been shown to stimulate and activate this area of the brain, causing your third eye to awaken. You can read more on this gland in my previous blog at Look for the section relating to your sixth chakra, also known as your third eye chakra. For most people out there, particularly Americans, getting this gland in optimal health will warrant the need for a diet change. Alcohol, pesticides, large amounts of sugar consumption, caffeine, and tobacco all help to calcify your pineal gland. Warning! Scientifically proven to calcify your pineal gland, there lives a sneaky chemical lurking in your water.

The hubbub on Fluoride

Flouride, the silent killer

Fluoride has the ability to jump the blood-brain barrier, an ability not successfully conquered by other chemicals. This means that when this substance enters your body and gets into your bloodstream, it can travel up your spinal column and into your cerebral cortex. In addition, fluoride is scientifically proven to calcify this organ. Fluoride in your toothpaste is common knowledge, however, this chemical is added to your water supply additionally! Moreso, traditional filtration systems purchased at larger scale department stores do not remove it!

Specialized filters need to be purchased to remove fluoride from your everyday drinking water. Your best option for complete removal of fluoride as well as other toxic heavy metals is through the purchase of a Reverse Osmosis Filter or Ro Di Filter for short. However, this option can be a bit pricey, so many companies have developed specialized filters at a cheaper cost. One company, Pure Water Freedom, offers a wide range of filtration options. They can be found at

Foods to decalcify your Pineal Gland

In addition to removing fluoride from your home and water supply, there are some foods that assist in the recovery and decalcification of this gland. Whole, natural algae contain two important nutrients for this, Chlorella and Spirulina. Other foods and oils great for this are things like oregano oil, apple cider vinegar, wheatgrass, pure cacao, and mangoes.

Awakening your Third Eye

Besides meditation, there are other activities you can do throughout your day to speed up the awakening of your third eye. Things like yoga, sleeping in a completely dark room, and spending time out in the sunlight are all great ways to assist this area. I highly recommend a book by Douglas De Long titled Ancient Teachings for Beginners. Discussed in this book are chants, meditations, and mantras that are performed to awaken not just your third eye, but your entire chakra system. It can be found on amazon
